THINGS TO DO:

* Don't miss Norfolk's center of downtown revitalization, the Waterside. Sip a cocktail and watch the sun kiss
the glass and steel as it fades into the horizon. The area's character is best observed after dark at any one
of the many fine dining establishments on the water.
* Norfolk Botanical Garden - There are several ways to drink in the colorful flaura here. But, whether you
choose your tour by tram, canal boat, or on foot be prepared to be awed. Fountains and statues dot the
garden grounds. Stop in for a bit at their Azalea Café.
* The Chrysler Museum of Art - Housed within the walls of an Italian Rennaissance building hide Walter P
Chrysler Jr's personal art collection. International pieces from dozens of different eras greet you as you
explore each of the 3 floors. Budget at least a couple hours if not an entire morning to exploring one of the
  world's most amazing private collections.
* Take a quick spin through the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. Admission is free and lets you marvel at
memorabilia belonging to such sports greats as tennis player Arthur Ashe and golfer Sam Sneed.
* Make sure you budget time for a trip to MacArthur Center, Norfolk's newest $300 million shopping
destination. Pace yourself, the 9 square blocks is a lot to work in one afternoon. Have a hankering for
antiques? Norfolk is the place! The Ghent area is perfect for finding that accent chair for a formal dining
room, or a wonderful outfit accent in a vintage piece of jewelry.
* Foodies from all over flock to Granby Street, also known as Restaurant Row. Stroll the sidewalk and let your
nose be your guide as flavors mingle liberally in the riverfront air. Spanish Tapas, traditional Japanese
sushi, seafood, Cubano-influenced delectables and Southwestern and Caribbean fare are all available for
sampling. Hip little bistros pop up all the time, so don't skimp on adventurous taste testing. But wherever
you dine, save room for a waffle cone at Doumar's, where old-fashioned carhops will hustle your tempting
  treat right to your car.
